Item 125 A pair of beautifully and superbly crafted late 18th century Georgian Sterling tongs by Peter and Anne Bateman.
Peter and Anne Bateman were outstanding silversmiths. The shaped sides are hand engraved with the classical bright cut decoration with pad ends. The tongs are in very good condition, no breaks, cracks, dents or repairs. One side of the interior is stamped with the letters PBAB for Peter and Anne Bateman. The other side is marked with the profile of King George III duty mark, the sterling lion passant and the letter “A” for the year 1796. The tongs measure approx. five and three-quarter (5-3/4”) long. It weighs grams. Initials are on the end bridge. This is a choice piece of English Georgian sterling to add to your collection.
